Show Notes

Do you know how many adults are illiterate in our country?  What percent of children are proficient in reading?  Why Kindergarten is so important?

"More than 37 percent of fourth-graders are not reading at the basic level in their grade, and 26 percent of eighth-graders are not reading at their basic level. "

"The Family Literacy Centers also predicts that if a child is not proficiently reading by the fourth grade, he or she will have a 78 percent chance of not catching up with classmates."

Even more astounding data in the link below.

" Some 36 million adults in the U.S. don’t have basic reading, writing, and math skills above a third-grade level, according to ProLiteracy."

"Illiteracy is a major factor in whether adolescents graduate from high school. One in 6 high school students — or about 1.2 million teens — drop out each year, according to ProLiteracy."

"Students who are behind when they start kindergarten make up the largest portion of school dropouts. These students have a less than 12% chance of attending college, according to the Children’s Reading Foundation."

3 Simples Ways to Get Started:

 1.    Read/Write Daily – provide the experience with reading EVERY DAY.

2.    Be Consistent – working on phonics, fluency, or writing - stay consistent…show up for your kids and expect them to as well.

3.    Set Mindset – when you child says…I can’t read...guide them to a different mindset…I am learning to read.  I am learning to write.

This has been on my heart for a long time after working in education. I have prayed and brainstormed ways to help families (especially in literacy) so that they have a solid reading foundation going into school.

I have pulled together all of the great things we did with our students to get them reading and writing proficiently as quickly as possible into two workshops to help parents PROACTIVELY prepare their children for school instead of REACTING to the problems they face in the classroom.

I will be offering TWO workshops:

Whole Readers Workshop (PreK - 1st)

Whole Writers Workshop (PreK -1st)

All by just spending 20 MINUTES a day with them!!!

These workshops will be fun and not time consu
