This episode is probably the most open and honest one I have recorded.  Through the chaos of these past few days, I have had to personally step away and refocus, be still, and find joy in my own little world.  I had to focus on me, so that I could be 100% there for my kids.  How did I do that?  I focused on my faith, my family, and delicious food!  

Whatever you have been making at home (or ordered out on those crazy days), it has brought your family together.  These recipes might have been the one thing you looked forward to on a bad day.  Maybe you aren’t a great cook, but decided to try out a few things.  They brought you and your family to gather in the kitchen.  They encouraged you to try a new spice or herb.  They initiated storytelling and brought people together.   

These recipes have in many ways become dear friends.  On the days when we felt the most along…most fearful…most hopeless.  They brought a sense of comfort that you were able to share with your spouse and kids.  I want to hear about these.  They are worth sharing with me and with our country and the world right now.  I am working on a project that I can hardly wait to start!  Over the next month, we will be creating a virtual cookbook together of our favorite recipes that we’ve been cooking during his pandemic, political crisis, and uncertainty in our lives.  

I hope this collective cookbook will spark some joy and community in our lives during a time when we need it most.  I hope that this episode might serve as a reminder that you are not alone…whatever your beliefs about all of this are…you are not alone.  Your heavy heart will heal.  It might take time, but in the meantime, be still and focus on faith, family, and food.
